Summary
The Beta Bionics iLet system is the first and only automated insulin delivery system that determines 100% of all insulin doses and requires very little input from the user. The iLet Bionic Pancreas consists of a tubed insulin pump, a Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor (CGM), and a connected smartphone or reader. To start, the user is required to enter their weight. The pump's algorithm can automatically make adjustments to insulin dosing after entering glucose targets and details about the meal.
*Recently FDA approved.
Components
Beta Bionics iLet : Pump
Pump connects tubing to a small patch called an infusion set that attaches to the body.
Beta Bionics iLet : Sensor
Sensor is inserted underneath the skin, either on the abdomen or arm.
Beta Bionics iLet : Controller
Pump receives CGM readings and automatically adjusts insulin delivery. Data from the pump and CGM viewable on compatible smartphones (iOS and Android)
Beta Bionics iLet : Infusion Set
An infusion set contains the thin plastic tubing that delivers insulin from the pump to the body.

Affordability and Access
$$$$
Pump coverage is not yet available. Sensor is widely covered and provided by DME and/or Pharmacy. Sensor price range; $0-$500/month.
Data Monitoring Options
Yes
iLet Mobile App provides the ability to pull data from an iLet device to share with the Beta Bionics Cloud.
Data View Options
Yes
Data is viewed on compatible smart devices through the iLet Mobile App. You can download and view pump or CGM data on Beta Bionics Cloud.
Duration and Storage
3-day pump 10-day sensor
Sensors last 10 days and transmitters last 90 and work at 50ºF – 108ºF. Pump can be used for up to 72 hrs, battery life lasts five days with the use of CGM, and work between 36°F (2°C) to 86°F (30°C).
Vision / Auditory / Dexterity
NO text to speech
YES vibration alerts
A LOT of dexterity needed
Patient Considerations
Active Lifestyle
No exercise mode. Pump will continue to increase or decrease insulin dosing in response to changing CGM glucose levels as usual. Pump is water resistant for up to 12 feet for 30 minutes.
Avoiding Highs and Lows
Auto basal and bolus insulin. Responds to CGM data by increasing or decreasing basal insulin delivery to prevent highs and lows and maintain a target blood glucose. Bolus correction controller is available to correct high blood sugar.
Comfort
Low profile. Low profile/low maintenance sensor. Small tubed pump with many infusion sets to pick from.
Easy Insulin Dosing
Meal announcement controller. No carb counting required. User is required to “announce” a meal to the system or tell the iLet they are having a meal. Algorithm will then figure out how much insulin is needed and adapt as the system is used more. Maxiumim insulin meal doses are 24 U. Even when you use the "Meal Announcement," your blood glucose levels could rise above 250 mg/dl for a few hours. You’ll need to be comfortable letting the iLet regulate your blood glucose.
Easy to Use
Easiest to Use. User weight is the only input required to start using the insulin pump. No carb counting. No correction factor. No insulin to carb ratio. No basal rate.
Fewer Fingersticks
Factory-calibrated sensor. Fingersticks needed for backup only.
Privacy
Discreet. Ability to check blood sugar on phone or watch. Minimal pump interaction is required. Pump has tubing but can be clipped to clothing or placed in a pocket to be discreet when needed. Dexcom's built-in hypoglycemia safety alarm alerts users when glucose is below 55 mg/dl and is always on.
