Why did you choose a smart system?

I want the latest technology. I want to have a device that will help me manage my diabetes to the best of my ability. I want to know what my blood sugars are as much as possible. I want a device that will help in treating lows and highs with a smart system so that hopefully I will not have to do as much.

What are the trade-offs of using a smart system?

Often, the sensor does not go the full 7 days, and the pump alarm goes off when I don't want it to. I can't shut off some of the alarms when I would like to. Sometimes I get kicked out of auto mode and have to remember to turn it back on.

Diabetes devices can produce a lot of information and numbers. How do you feel about this? What do you do with all the data?

I use it and share with my doctor. I use it to control my blood sugar.

How do you respond to people when they notice or comment on your devices?

I tell them about it.

How do you make the devices comfortable on your body?

I use a belt clip or a thigh strap or tuck it in my bra.

What helps you trust your devices?

I know that it is the latest (technology available), and nothing is perfect.

What would you tell someone considering this same combo?

It gives lots of information and can greatly help manage your A1C.

What challenges do you have and how have you overcome them?

I carry an extra meter and supplies, along with insulin and batteries, everywhere I go. I keep extra batteries in my car and husband's car and extra (pump) insertion sets.
