Priorities & Concerns

Avoid Lows The Cost

Why did you choose a sensor and injections?

I know that devices are getting better and I want to give myself every opportunity to live as long and healthy as possible.

I need to take better control of my (Insulin Requiring Type 2) diabetes with insulin. This method is helping me do that a lot better.

What are the tradeoffs of using a sensor and injections?

Pros: Not waking up with a high blood sugar level over 250. I also go to the gym at least 3 to 4 days a week. I have the app on my iPhone as well as the monitor that came with the Dexcom G6. I now know if I need to do anything while doing my exercise routine.

Con: My Dexcom helps me avoid lows but sometimes the lows come too fast. The Dexcom needs to let me know when I start dropping not that I have dropped and have 5 minutes to do something.

This is my Dexcom G6.
How do you respond to people when they notice or comment on your devices?

I let them know how happy and how much better I feel because of the device. When I’m in a public place I assume that people know that I have to take care of myself. I try not to be obvious so if I need insulin I inject what I need through my shirt or t shirt.

How do you make the sensor comfortable on your body?

My daughter-in-law bought me a wonderful shoulder pouch that carries my devices and medicine perfectly.

What helps you trust your devices?

I know that devices are getting better and I want to give myself every opportunity to live as long and healthy as possible.

What would you tell someone considering this same combo?

The best thing that has happened to me. I look at my meter and can prevent a high or low blood sugar level immediately. I suggest seriously doing the research and talk to your Endocrinologist about any device that could improve their standard of living healthier.

What challenges do you have and how have you overcome them?

The sensor life on the Dexcom G6 is too short and a couple of the patches have failed. I feel the cost is a concern for so short a time. I need the sensor to give more current information.
